Why 35%? See the score breakdownBreakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
Woke representation / casting
The children in the main cast come from several different racial backgrounds. One child has a robotic headpiece that shows a physical disability. In the third episode, we meet her parents and see she is raised by two moms of different races. This is a clear choice to include LGBTQ+ representation in a minor role, even though they stay in the background.
30%
Woke political dialogue
The characters talk in simple ways that fit the story. The show does not use woke political dialogue, modern buzzwords, or preachy speeches.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The story is a simple adventure about kids trying to get back home. However, it lightly uses identity-driven story themes by showing a child with a disability whose differences help her friends. It also includes LGBTQ+ parents, though this does not change the main plot.
25%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The kids flee a very strict community on their home planet. This is a common sci-fi setup. The show does not offer a Western institutional / cultural critique, and it does not attack traditional families, men, or normal social rules.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Some viewers who dislike woke content complained about the lesbian moms in Episode 3. They felt it was an unnecessary push to put modern social topics in a kids' show. The anti-woke backlash and complaints did not turn into a large boycott because the moment is very brief.
35%
Creator track record context
Show creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford have clean, non-political track records. However, other team members like Kathleen Kennedy and Sarah Halley Finn have a strong history of pushing for diversity. This raises the overall creator track record context score.
