Harpoon follows Jonah, a broke young man who has been friends with Richard since childhood. Richard is rich, jealous, and quick to use violence, while Sasha is his girlfriend and the person who often keeps both men under control. After Richard attacks Jonah over a suspected affair, the three take his yacht into the open sea to make peace. The boat loses power, food and water run low, and old lies turn a friendship into a bloody fight. The tone moves from dry comedy to cruel survival horror.
The clearest woke-leaning element is Sasha's rise from girlfriend, caretaker, and referee to the person who makes the last major choice. The film gives her a nursing degree and makes her the most practical voice while the two men act jealous, violent, and foolish. She cheats, lies, and kills to protect herself, so the story presents female power through a nasty survival twist rather than a clean heroic lesson. That idea is important to the final part of the story, but the film does not turn it into a wider message about identity, politics, or social change.
