Belle Walker is a troubled teenager who moves with her single mother, younger sister, and comatose twin brother. The family rents the infamous Amityville house because the lower cost may help pay for James’s medical care. Strange events begin after James wakes and seems to recover, but Belle sees signs that something evil has entered his body. The film uses a dark horror tone and follows Belle as she tries to protect her family.
The story focuses on family grief, guilt, broken trust, faith, and fear of losing a loved one. Joan has stopped believing in God after her husband dies and James is badly hurt, so she tries to use the house’s evil power to save him. Belle’s school bullying and anger at her mother grow from personal troubles, including leaked private pictures. Belle must face both her brother’s possession and her mother’s dangerous choice before the family is destroyed.
