RAF pilot Kate Sinclair is shot down over Afghanistan during her final combat mission. Kate runs from insurgents and hides inside a sealed Soviet bunker. Her escape wakes the Ravagers, human and alien weapons made in secret tests. Kate reaches a nearby American outpost, where the soldiers first doubt her warning. The group must fight the creatures before a bomb destroys the bunker and everyone near it.
Kate is a capable woman in a combat role, and she gets most of the action scenes. Jade Lafayette is also a black woman who fights as a corporal at the outpost. The story gives both women military jobs among a mixed group of soldiers. Their gender and race stay in the background while the fight grows worse.
