Marrowbone follows Jack, a young man who hides with his three younger siblings in their mother’s old family house in rural Maine in 1969. The family has fled England to escape their violent father, but their mother dies soon after they arrive. Jack tries to keep the siblings together until he can legally care for them, while strange sounds and a hidden threat trap them inside. The film has a slow, gloomy mood and mixes family drama with mystery and psychological horror.
The story centers on loyalty, grief, guilt, abuse, and the damage caused by fear. Jack acts as the family’s protector, while the children hide the truth from the authorities and depend on their own rules. Allie gives Jack a loving link to the outside world, but the main struggle stays inside the family and the house. The final reveal turns the haunting into a painful story about trauma, memory, and a mind trying to survive the loss of the people Jack loves.
