Along for the Ride follows Auden, a smart but lonely teen who spends the summer before college in the beach town where her father lives. Her father is distant while he works, and his new wife is worn out caring for their baby. Auden meets Eli, a local bike rider who cannot sleep after losing his best friend. Their quiet night trips give the movie a soft romance tone and push both teens to face grief, fear, and missed chances.
Auden also starts work at a small shop. She becomes friends with Maggie, Leah, and Esther. The friends help her try things she avoided, including riding a bike and going to parties. Esther is gay and talks about a crush on another girl. Her role is small because the main love story is between Auden and Eli.
