Anton Yelchin (1989–2016) was a Russian-born American actor from a Jewish family that left the late Soviet Union as refugees when he was an infant. He worked from childhood through his mid-20s, best known as Pavel Chekov in J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek films and as Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation, while taking a wide independent range in Like Crazy, Green Room, Charlie Bartlett, Alpha Dog, Fright Night, Only Lovers Left Alive, and other films, plus voice work on Trollhunters. Interviews and the documentary Love, Antosha present him as a cinephile, musician, and photographer who treated acting as character range rather than political messaging. Public remarks on heritage focused on Soviet antisemitism, Stalin-era family history, Russian literature and cinema, and discomfort with contemporary Russia. Promoting Green Room, he said Nazi ideology should be understood in order to oppose it and called Nazi imagery repulsive. He was one of many celebrity narrators on the animal-rights documentary Unity. There is no widely reported record of party endorsements, campaign donations, DEI or representation campaigns, or an activist public persona. He died at 27 in a vehicle accident.
