Person profile
Creator Context
Aamir Khan is an Indian actor, producer and television presenter with a long-standing public association with socially engaged entertainment and civic advocacy. He co-created and hosted Satyamev Jayate, a widely discussed program that addressed female foeticide, child sexual abuse, rape, dowry, domestic violence, caste discrimination, medical malpractice, alcoholism and other social problems, often connecting episodes to public action. He supported the Narmada Bachao Andolan’s rehabilitation demands, participated in ethical-voting messaging, co-founded the Paani Foundation for rural water conservation, and publicly criticized rising religious intolerance in India in 2015, saying he understood concerns about the safety of his family. His production and acting choices have repeatedly included education, disability, gender equality, religious prejudice, corruption and social reform, though much of his film career remains mainstream entertainment rather than activism. Khan has also stated that he does not endorse a political party, making his public profile more issue-oriented than conventionally partisan. The combination of repeated social-issue programming, advocacy and representation-focused creative work supports a substantial activist and socially progressive persona.
