Clancy Finch is a teen who thinks her strict mom is boring and her life is too locked down. Her younger brother Kevin is a wild storyteller who gets bullied online. One night, strangers kidnap their parents. The kids learn their mom is a former top thief in witness protection and must pull one last job. With two friends, they race through Boston with spy gear to save their family in a silly, action-comedy night.
The movie is a light family heist adventure in the style of Spy Kids. The biggest theme most viewers will notice is a strong, skilled mom who fights and plans while dad is the goofy baker who often messes up for laughs. Netflix also tags it as Girl Power. That gender setup is clear on screen, but it stays inside normal family-comedy jokes, not big speeches about identity or politics. The real focus is teamwork, courage, sibling love, and a mom protecting her kids after her old crime past comes back.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Sleepover.
Woke representation / casting
Supporting friends and side roles include actors of different races in a modern Boston setting, but the lead family is white and the story does not center race or push diversity as a message. Casting feels like a normal kids-movie group, not a heavy identity showcase.
20%
Woke political dialogue
Talk is parent-kid fights, heist jokes, and kid banter. No real speeches about race, gender politics, or activist causes.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Clear girl-power flavor: skilled action mom, comic bumbling dad, Netflix Girl Power tag. Mom’s combat skill is explained by her thief past, so it is not pure unearned girlboss fantasy. Themes stay on family rescue, courage, and being yourself.
50%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Does not attack Western faith, government, or culture as systems. Criminals are the bad guys; police arrest them. Parenting jokes are light comedy, not activist critique.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not present in this title.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
No meaningful anti-woke or anti-DEI backlash found treating this film as political propaganda.
0%

Cached scores for director, writer, and producers are very low; commercial family/action work without a strong activist pattern.
