John Constantine is a troubled magician who has lost his courage after Darkseid destroys the heroes' first attack. Earth has become a ruined world where Darkseid uses the planet's core and controls surviving heroes. Constantine joins Superman, Raven, Damian Wayne, Etrigan, Lois Lane, Harley Quinn, and other survivors for a last attack on Apokolips. The story is bleak, bloody, and fast, with many heroes dying, suffering, or being forced to fight for the enemy.
The clearest woke element is a short scene that shows Constantine has had a relationship with King Shark. The joke makes Constantine's bisexuality visible, but the relationship does not shape his main goal or his effort to fix his past. Zatanna remains his main love interest, and the story focuses on guilt, sacrifice, teamwork, and the cost of failed leadership. The final choice to reset time is a desperate way to give Earth another chance after the heroes' defeat.
