Sistine is a young woman on a trip to New Orleans with her friend Hannah. She has just lost her job and carries other personal stress. The two friends join a cheap gator boat tour in the Louisiana swamp. Other riders include a pushy businesswoman, a nurse and her family, and the tour crew. A huge hippo attacks after the boat leaves the safe path.
The plot keeps its focus on tourists fighting the animal and trying to stay alive. Sistine grows into a careful survivor who plans escapes and helps other people. An old plan about farming hippos in Louisiana explains why the animals are in the swamp. Greed on the tour and bad choices put people in danger. The climax is about freeing a trapped baby hippo so the adult stops its attacks. The movie sells thrills and survival scares. Modern identity politics do not drive the story.
