Dog Days is a warm comedy set in Los Angeles during one summer. The film follows several people whose lives cross through their dogs. Elizabeth is a morning news anchor dealing with a breakup, while Tara works in a coffee shop and wants a more useful life. Garrett runs a struggling dog rescue, Dax hides his sister’s dog, Grace and Kurt prepare for their adopted daughter, and Walter searches for his lost dog with help from a teenage delivery boy.
Most of the film’s message is about kindness, responsibility, adoption, family, and the comfort pets can bring. Tara finds purpose by helping Garrett save his rescue center, and Elizabeth slowly opens up to Jimmy after a painful relationship. The story gives women important jobs and lets Tara lead the fundraiser, but it does not build that into a broad political message.
