10x10 is a dark British-American thriller about Robert Lewis, a quiet family man who watches Cathy Noland before kidnapping her in a parking lot. He takes her to a remote house and locks her in a soundproof room that gives the film its name. Lewis wants Cathy to tell him her real name and explain a death from his past. The mood stays tense and grim as the captive and captor fight, lie, and slowly trade places in the viewer’s eyes.
The film gives Cathy strong survival skills, but it does not present her as a hero. The twist reveals that she is really Natalie, a former nurse who killed people she judged to be sinners, including Lewis’s wife. Her strict church upbringing and belief in Bible rules help explain her violence, so the film treats religious certainty as dangerous when it turns into personal punishment.
