Waco tells the true story of the 1993 standoff near Waco, Texas. David Koresh leads the Branch Davidians, a religious group living inside a guarded compound. FBI negotiator Gary Noesner tries to end the crisis through calm talks, while ATF and FBI leaders push for stronger action. The series has a serious, tense, and tragic tone as the conflict lasts 51 days and ends with many deaths.
The show gives strong attention to government mistakes, poor planning, media pressure, and the human side of the Branch Davidians. It shows Koresh as manipulative and dangerous, but it also presents him as smart, calm, and persuasive. The story questions whether federal agents made the standoff worse through force and distrust.
