Frank Walsh is a rough big-game hunter who captures rare animals and sells them to zoos. He boards a freighter with a white jaguar, snakes, monkeys, and other dangerous creatures. The ship also carries Richard Loffler, a political assassin being sent to the United States for trial. Frank must move through the ship, protect the crew, and stop Loffler while the story mixes gun fights, animal attacks, dark jokes, and loud Nicolas Cage acting.
Dr. Ellen Taylor is a Navy doctor who argues with Frank and tries to help control the crisis. The story gives her some authority, but Frank remains the main hunter and rescuer, and Taylor later becomes a hostage. The danger comes from animal captivity, human greed, and a brutal assassin rather than from a social or identity dispute.
