In 1974, Finbar Murphy lives quietly in a remote village in County Donegal after years as a paid killer. An IRA bombing sends Doireann McCann and her violent crew into hiding near his home. Finbar wants peace, but he steps back into violence when Doireann’s brother harms a young girl in the village. The story plays like a slow Irish crime thriller with the shape of a Western, and its mood stays grim, quiet, and tense.
The film follows a damaged man who wants to earn a better ending without pretending that his past was harmless. It shows how revenge pulls Finbar and Doireann into the same cycle of bloodshed, even though they defend very different choices. The story gives weight to guilt, mercy, loyalty, and the cost of protecting innocent people. A brief pub scene includes a black African fiddle player, but the main conflict remains a personal fight over crime, terrorism, abuse, and redemption.
