James lives in a desert bunker with the parents who raised him, and he spends his days watching Brigsby Bear, a strange children’s show made only for him. After police bring him back to his real family, James learns that the show, his home, and much of his childhood were built around a lie. He struggles to understand school, parties, family life, and a world he has never seen. The story mixes odd jokes, dark turns, and a warm tone as James tries to find a place in ordinary life.
James chooses to finish the Brigsby story by making his own movie, and he gathers help from Spencer, Aubrey, Meredith, and Detective Vogel. The group gives him friendship and a way to turn painful memories into something he can control. The film keeps returning to the value of creative work, personal freedom, and kindness toward people who seem strange or hard to understand.
