Woke Score
Lower is better
Review
Earth's mightiest heroes must join forces with allies from across the universe to stop the powerful villain Thanos. Thanos wants to collect all six magical Infinity Stones to destroy half of all living things. A brief scene features a quick combat partnership between three female heroes to defeat a villain. Another short moment depicts a young female scientist showing superior intelligence to an established male scientist.
Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Avengers: Infinity War.
Woke representation / casting
The movie features a large and diverse group of characters. A few short moments highlight girl power and representation. For example, the young princess Shuri is shown to be smarter than the older scientist Bruce Banner. Also, three female heroes team up for a quick fight against a female villain. However, most characters match their original comic book versions.
Woke political dialogue
The film does not have political speeches or social-justice lectures. The characters only talk about stopping the villain and saving the universe.
Identity-driven story themes
The main story is about sacrifice, working together, and stopping a bad guy. There are no themes about race, gender, or sexual identity.
Western institutional / cultural critique
The story does not attack Western culture, traditional family life, or traditional roles. The film portrays positive, normal relationships and focuses on heroic actions to protect others.
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The characters are faithful to their established Marvel history and comic book origins. There are no identity-based changes.
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Very few people complained about this movie being woke. A small number of online comments disliked the scene where Shuri corrects Bruce Banner. Others thought the female team-up fight felt slightly forced. Most viewers loved the film and did not find it political.
Creator track record context
The directors, writers, and editors have very low woke scores between 5 and 20. They are standard film industry workers with no history of political activism or identity-driven projects.
