The Mechanism is a Brazilian crime drama about the Car Wash corruption investigation. Federal police officer Marco Ruffo becomes obsessed with a money laundering case after threats push him out of the force. Ten years later, his former trainee Verena Cardoni leads the case through banks, building firms, courts, and government offices. The show uses a tense thriller style with dark humor, police work, family strain, and repeated explanations of how bribery moves through public life.
Verena is a capable female police leader in a field shown as mostly male, and season two gives her more control of the investigation. Her romance with prosecutor Claudio and her personal losses add drama, while a black officer named Vander faces moral pressure as he sees how the system affects his life and community.
