Ridley follows Alex Ridley, a retired detective inspector who returns as a police consultant in rural Lancashire. His former trainee, Carol Farman, now leads the local team and brings him into difficult murder cases. Ridley carries heavy guilt after his wife and daughter die in a house fire, while Carol balances police work, marriage, and raising children.
