Adults returns to sex, consent, and personal identity across the season. The first story deals with workplace abuse and whether past sex was consent. Another major story follows the friends caring for a teen who travels for an abortion. The finale turns Paul Baker and Anton’s marriage and kiss into a major cliffhanger, while the group treats flexible sexuality as normal. These themes matter in several episodes, but the main story remains a friendship comedy.

Adults includes brief modern complaints about work, health care, and public safety. The pilot questions how people handle sexual abuse and consent, while later stories show medical debt and a “defund the police” joke. The friends usually use these issues for selfish or foolish plans. The show does not build a strong attack on men, family, faith, or Western institutions.

Adults received a few small anti-woke complaints. X users called it a “woke” knockoff and objected to its supposedly “problematic” jokes. One Reddit commenter called the show “so woke” and dreadful, while another viewer who usually dislikes overly woke shows still liked it. No large campaign or major news backlash was found, so the complaints are real but fringe.

Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw are comedy writers with little public activist history. Most of the creative team also has comedy careers without a strong activist record. Rob Rosell has the clearest related history because he worked on Woke and a New Girl story about police brutality and racism. Jason Woliner has some political satire, but the wider group does not show a steady identity-first agenda.
