Person profile
Creator Context
Swiss producer Tiziana Soudani, who died in 2020, co-founded Amka Films with filmmaker Mohammed Soudani and helped build a company initially centered on African stories and African directors before expanding into European independent cinema. Her long career included documentaries, fiction, international co-productions, teaching and service on Swiss film institutions and festival juries. Amka supported socially engaged work addressing migration, racism, war, religion and African political realities, as well as collaborations with filmmakers such as Alice Rohrwacher. A particularly strong representation-oriented pattern appears in Women’s Africa, a documentary she produced that foregrounds women from several African countries as leaders confronting social, economic and environmental challenges; the project was described as giving voice to feminist and women-led change. These choices indicate a sustained interest in African perspectives and women’s public agency, although her broader record is that of an independent producer rather than a consistently public political activist.
