Laxman Utekar is an Indian cinematographer, writer and director whose career spans Hindi and Marathi cinema. After working as a cinematographer on films including English Vinglish, Dear Zindagi, Hindi Medium and 102 Not Out, he moved into directing with the Marathi film Tapaal and later made Hindi features such as Luka Chuppi, Mimi and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. His work periodically engages social and identity-related subjects, including disability and social marginalization in Lalbaugchi Rani, live-in relationships and family conservatism in Luka Chuppi, and surrogacy, motherhood and abandonment in Mimi. He has also emphasized rural Indian settings and culturally grounded stories, describing his aim as reflecting Indian colours.
