Summary

American spoken-word poet, performer and activist whose public career centered on gender identity, sexuality, LGBTQ rights, feminism, social justice, violence, mental health and mortality. Gibson identified as genderqueer and later used they/them pronouns, writing and performing extensively about non-binary experience, queer love, gender norms and the struggles of marginalized communities. They performed for years with Vox Feminista, a radical feminist performance collective, appeared at Take Back the Night events, and used the video poem America, Reloading to advocate action and organizing around gun violence. Gibson also worked with Power to the Patients on hospital price transparency and became Colorado’s poet laureate in 2023. Their books, albums and live performances made identity and activism central to their public reputation, while their later work also addressed cancer, grief and hope.
