Summary

Turkish writer, screenwriter, visual artist and former teacher from Çanakkale. He began writing for local newspapers and literary magazines, published books including Bir Üniversitelinin Not Defteri and Bir Taşra Köpeği, and developed screenplays from provincial experience, unattained-teacher pressures, intellectual ambition, class tension and religious or social life in contemporary Turkey. His collaboration with Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Ebru Ceylan established him as a screenwriter and he has also acted in one of the resulting films. Aksu’s work is socially observant and rooted in the Turkish countryside, but available interviews and biographies do not show a recurring activist, DEI, representation-first, partisan or identity-politics public persona. In 2023, Turkish press reported that he sent threatening messages to a critic who discussed his work, a counter-signal to an activist or progressive public profile.
