Mike McCann is a North Dakota truck driver who looks after his younger brother, Gurty, an Iraq veteran with PTSD and aphasia. After a diamond mine collapses in northern Manitoba, 26 miners are trapped underground with little oxygen left. Mike joins Jim Goldenrod, Tantoo, and another driver to haul rescue equipment across melting ice roads before the route breaks apart. The film has a cold, tense action tone, but it also uses family loyalty, danger, and rough humor to keep the mission moving.
