Retribution

Matt Turner is a busy bank executive who lives in Berlin with his wife and two children. A caller tells Matt that a bomb is under his car seat, so Matt must drive through the city while following orders and keeping his children alive. The story follows the family’s danger as Matt faces greed, guilt, financial crime, revenge, and the need to survive. Matt also has to face his selfish work life and the damage it has caused to his family relationships.

The film does not place modern identity politics at the center of its story. Angela Brickmann is a skilled Europol agent who plays an important role in investigating the bombing. The film treats banking corruption as a cause of danger, but it does not turn that idea into a broad activist message. The visible themes focus on family responsibility, greed, revenge, guilt, and redemption. The film includes a diverse supporting lead, but it does not present her identity as a main subject.
