Meyer Lansky is an aging Jewish mob boss living in Florida in 1981. Federal agents still think he hid a huge fortune, so they try to use a broke writer named David Stone to reach him. Lansky hires Stone to record his life story, but the writer is pushed to betray him while trying to save his own family. The film moves between quiet talks in Miami and violent flashbacks about New York, Cuba, Las Vegas, and the rise of the crime group.
