Lucas is a drug-addicted former soldier who works as a hired killer. A rich British crime boss orders him to kill Ella, a sixteen-year-old student whose family has been murdered. Lucas refuses when Ella reminds him of the daughter he has never known. Lucas and Ella run across Switzerland, France, and England while other killers, crooked officials, and the crime boss close in. The movie has a bleak, violent, and fast-moving action-thriller tone.
The story follows Lucas as he tries to escape his drug habit and decide whether he can protect a child after years of killing. Ella begins as a frightened student, but she learns the truth about her parents and chooses revenge against Addison. The pair build a guarded father-and-daughter bond, even though Lucas hides that he was hired to kill her. The movie ends with Ella shooting Addison and Lucas returning to his wife and daughter, so the main themes are guilt, family, revenge, and a hard chance at redemption.
