Greedy People follows Will Shelley, a new police officer who moves with his pregnant wife, Paige, to a quiet coastal town. On his first day, Will mistakes a dispatch call for a burglary and accidentally kills a woman. He and his rough partner, Terry, hide the death after finding a million dollars, and their lie spreads through the town. The film uses dark jokes, sudden violence, adultery, and a chain of bad choices to show how fear and greed destroy ordinary lives.
The clearest audience-visible identity element is the casting of South Asian actor Himesh Patel as the lead police officer and black actor Uzo Aduba as the town police chief.
