Gary Goodspeed is a loud, silly astronaut finishing a prison sentence in space. He meets Mooncake, a small alien who can destroy planets, and they become best friends. A cruel enemy called the Lord Commander hunts them, and the crew later faces worse cosmic threats. The show mixes jokes, action, and heavy feelings about family, loss, and found friends. It runs three seasons and grows darker and more emotional as it goes.
Later seasons put more weight on strong female leads and on one clear queer story. Quinn is a sharp black scientist and fighter who often outthinks Gary and drives big plot choices. In season three, Ash falls for Evra, a genderless being, and the show treats that bond as romance. Creator talk and on-screen moments make Ash’s queer identity clear, but the main spine stays cosmic adventure and friendship, not politics speeches.
